Listed here are the common adverse side effects of the "typical" neuroleptic medications. The "typicals" are the neuroleptics that we have already been talking about. These side effects include: tremor, stiffness, cogwheeling, acute muscle dystonias, and tardive dyskinesia. One important point about the typical neuroleptics is that they are not effective at treating what we call the "negative" symptoms of schizophrenia. The negative symptoms include affective blunting, alogia, anergia, anhedonia, and avolition.
