This slide demonstrates how the patient profile might infuence the initial selection of an antidepressant. The medications listed for the various patient profiles have been found, over past years, to be of more usefulness than the other antidepressants for that particular type of problem. If the outcome is not so desireable, then an antidepressant that works via a different neurotransmitter system or mechanism might be given a trial.
