ANTIDEPRESSANTS

The reason why Prozac stormed the market has to do with it being much more safe than the antidepressants which predated it. Not only was it more safe, but people found they had less bothesome side effects. Further, in most cases, Prozac was found to be as effective as the older generation antidepressants. Because of Prozac's success, other pharmaceutical companies wanted to have a similar type anti-depressant and that led to the arrival of the other SSRI's mentioned on the previous slide.
